Providing new and exciting content for your audience can be exhausting.  Content curation can help reduce your overall workload by allowing you to use content produced by others in a new, interesting, and relevant way that provides value to your readers.  There are four factors you need to execute successfully for curated content perfection.

Add Value Consistently

The first rule of content curation is to add value to the content you are gathering and sharing with your audience.  Simply sharing content on topics of interest to your audience doesn’t add value and is a waste of time.  You need to add your opinions and perspectives on the topic in order for your audience to engage.  Value doesn’t mean you have to be serious and only present hard-hitting topics to your audience.  Curation provides a great opportunity to introduce some humor into your content strategy.  A compilation of niche-specific jokes is a great way to create quality shareable content.

Know Your Audience

It is difficult to find the right pieces of content to share with your audience if you don’t know who they are and what they enjoy.  Make sure you understand the topics of interest to your niche.  Really nail down the specific values and opinions your audience shares. Use this strategy to allow you to hone your brand voice while curating content.

Use What Is Working

Not every piece of content will be a hit.  Some items take off with tons of social shares and inspire lots of comments while others may fall completely flat and seem like no one is engaging with them.  Take the time to analyze the differences between pieces that have worked well and those that haven’t.  Once you’ve figured out what it is that is working, do more of that.

Test Different Formats

Curated content is different than original content.  The format your audience prefers to receive your original content may be very different than the preferred format for curated content.  Make sure to test different mediums like articles, videos, and infographics to find what works best for your audience.  If something isn’t working, then move on and try something different.

It really is that easy to get started with content curation.  Have some fun and experiment with different ways of presenting interesting and engaging information to your audience.  Keep promoting your content. Always remember the goal is to provide value to your audience and they will reward you with their attention.
